Teamsters on the Case at Chase

About a month ago President Taylor was talking to the dock master at 270 Park Avenue about the upcoming new furniture deliveries. He was told that another Teamster local was doing new furniture on the job and found out the local was Local 560 out of New Jersey.

President Taylor immediately called our Joint Council 16 to figure out the jurisdiction issue. He was made aware that there was a written agreement that allowed 560 to work in our buildings, provided they pay our rates and benefit package. The funny thing is that the agreement had no auditing component to it. They didn’t know our rates so how could they be paying them?

This agreement has allowed 560 and its companies to take work from us under the honor system. This system is an epic fail and needs to be adjusted. They worked in our city for the last 14 years at least with no checks and balances!

To avoid any further confusion, both councils agreed to have 560 to do the trucking while 814 does all the unloads and placement of furniture and glass. It’s a win for us under the circumstances. We will be addressing the International executive board to work out these injustices in this one-sided deal. President Taylor will insist that we be made whole by giving us favorable terms and conditions for the next agreement. We will update you with any future changes.

Stay tuned!
